Hackers suck

Blah.  I hate hackers.  No, not the white hat ones that are cool and helping corporations, or the glamorous ones that Hollywood likes to portray in movies like Hackers or Tron or Swordfish, magically sifting through and finding loopholes in code in some glorified graphic world as they defeat some sinister agenda .  No … I hate the imbecile kiddie black hat hackers that have a ton of time and boredom and exist to just be a pain in your butt and annoy your daily life.  Why you may ask?  Well … I just spent the last 1.5 hours or so hardening my WordPress instance and cleaning up my database and posts because apparently my posts got hacked.  I apparently got hacked awhile ago before WordPress had released an update to fix one of their security holes a year ago, and all of my past posts have had random drug advertisements inserted into the body of their … Continued

The dawn of a new era!

Hello … is anyone there? First of all, sorry for the long posting drought. This last year has been pretty crazy around here with work, and I’m hoping to make a fresh start again and focus on what’s truly important and exciting … food and tech! Now let’s see … what’s happened recently that is worth blogging about? Well this last year has been pretty impressive with all the new iPad and iPhone growth, but that’s a topic for another day. Cloud based music solutions? Nah, not for today. Or perhaps the new Kindle? Nope, I think I’m more in a ranting mood today so I’m going to go with the whole Qwikster/Netflix announcement! Ahhh where to start. Well as I’m sure the whole world knows now, on September 18, 2011, a day that will live on in infamy as the day Netflix developed a TIME MACHINE. I mean, what … Continued

Another big Hulu-baloo!

Wow … it’s been a really long time since I last updated this blog and website! Since my last post oh-so-long-ago, I’ve been up mucking it up and doing the following tiny things: Went to the 2009 CES show thanks to my former boss (Rob you are my hero!).  Took a bunch of photos and posted those to Facebook awhile ago so click the link above if you’re interested. Moved out to Los Angeles for a new manager role in charge of our archival quality and content management operations here at NBCU back in November 2009 Found an awesome apartment right in Hollywood near my favorite haunts. Been staring hours on end at value stream maps, process maps and workflows, storage volumes, spot checking videos, and playing with lots and lots of excel … oh my! Went snowboarding any free day during the weekend that I could get away from … Continued

What’s with those Facebook app games?

So I’ve got to say that when I first saw my Facebook feed getting filled with requests for “Join so-and-so’s mafia” and “Would you like to be so-and-so’s farming neighbor”, I was thinking … WTF.  Seriously, what kind of hokey new Facebook apps are these, and why would I want to waste my time with them?  Oh it’s probably just another one of those pirates vs ninjas vs vikings things. But then one day I decided to take the plung and just check it out.  Little did I know that was the beginning of the end.  For some reason both of these stupid little applications got addictingly fun to play.  Each had it’s own unique story line, enough room to let you do what you wanted, a competitive feel, and balance to it all. From doing mafia jobs to gain experience points, buying up properties, and fighting other mafias in … Continued

Storage

For today’s rant, er … blog … I’d like to talk about one simple word.  Storage.  We all just can’t seem to get enough of it nowadays.  I mean seriously … think about it.  Whether it be physical storage for your belongings, like your bike, clothes, guitar, boat, <insert other clutter-full paraphernalia here>, or digital storage for your pictures, movies, documents, mp3s and other byte wielding files, it seems people are making a nice little profit around just how you organize and store it all. I was just checking out some articles online today regarding cloud storage, and it just hit me how often I see this theme throughout my daily life.  As a result, I started to think about it further and decided I would write a little 5 minute blurb to see how much I could find it in my life. In the physical world: Closets – Just … Continued
